Scrappage Scheme
At smart, we’re big fans of the Government’s Car Scrappage Scheme. It’s a fantastic opportunity for drivers to get rid of old, out-dated, polluting cars and choose a smart fortwo instead - the clean, green, safe alternative.
As long as your car is over 10 years old and you’ve owned it for 12 months, it’s eligible for the scheme. We’ll take it off your hands, scrap it responsibly, and you'll be entitled to a £2,000 contribution towards a brand new smart fortwo coupé or cabrio.
You can choose any model you like - from the new smart fortwo cdi, the world’s lowest CO2 emitting and most fuel efficient production car, to the innovative micro hybrid drive (mhd). They’re all gentle on the environment and have been awarded an impressive EuroNCAP four-star safety rating, with standard features ranging from ESP® to the tridion safety cell.
Do you qualify for the scheme?
We’ll be happy to scrap your old car and give you a £2,000 contribution towards the price of a new smart fortwo provided:
• Your old vehicle is a car or small van up to 3.5 tonnes
• Your old vehicle was registered in the UK on or before 31 August 1999
• You’re the registered keeper of the vehicle and have been for at least 12 months
• You have a UK address
• Your old vehicle has a current MOT
and
• Your old vehicle has a current tax disc
or
• Your old vehicle is a Category D insurance write-off
or
• Your old vehicle is a Category C insurance write-off, has been tested and received a VIC IE replacement V5, and DVLA records have been updated
If you meet all these requirements, just bring your old car along to us, along with your V5 vehicle log book, current MOT certificate and some proof of ID.
We’ll take you through all the paperwork and once that’s out of the way, we can help you with the fun part… choosing and ordering your brand new smart fortwo.
Naturally, you can carry on using your old car until your new smart arrives. When it does, we’ll dispose of it responsibly, using government approved recycling centres.
Running from 18th May 2009 until March 2010 – or until Government funding runs out - the Scrappage Scheme operates on a first come first served basis. So be sure to visit us soon.
